Ownership Life Skills Counseling©

Don't tell us what you can't do! Allow us the opportunity to show you what you thought you couldn't achieve!

“… Any solution that suppresses the true nature and damage caused by a self-identified trauma will mentally hold us hostage. Our minds become incapacitated while building a foundation to avoid taking full ownership of that which truly pains us. With each day our life can crumble right before our very eyes. No one to blame. No excuses to use, we become the "victim" and not the "victor". Ownership Life Skills© provides an opportunity to free yourself of things which have set you up for a less than peaceful and successful life; It is a choice, a mindset, a way of life and the true essence of freedom.”

 (Jo Ann Rimmer, 2017)

COVID SAFETY AND WELL-BEING INFORMATION

As with every business, Sunhouse has been affected in the way we provide services. We are advocating for the return of life in a healthier manner as with everyone affected by the public health devastation COVID-19 has brought upon our communities. We are continuing online resource and referral services. Please contact us should you have questions regarding the Ownership counseling services (Online Only) or would like to purchase any materials.

San Joaquin County Public Health Services is a great resource and provides a wide range of information regarding

COVID-19:

Sunhouse was established as a non-profit catalyst for adult life skills counseling services in Stockton, CA., in 2003. This unique one-of-a-kind program was co-founded by program authors and instructors, Jo Ann (JoJo) Rimmer and Rodney Rimmer

Rodney D. Rimmer, M.S. (CSU-Sacramento)

As an individual who seriously abused alcohol and drugs, as well as being someone with significant mental health issues, it never dawned on me during this period of my life that I had been given more than my fair share of chances to recover what was left of my life, and like everyone who lives an unhealthy lifestyle, I kept saying to myself, “I’m just unlucky… right now…but that will change; This situation is not my fault”. It wasn't until I realized that it was, in fact, my fault, that I became determined to find a truthfully challenging and holistic tool to get my life back in order and live as a healthy human being. That tool evolved into what Jo Ann and I call, the “Ownership Life Skills and Harm Reduction Program.”

The nature of an unhealthy lifestyle is in and of itself very aggressive; therefore, I believe a person will require a truthfully deeper and more challenging level of life changing tools. In my opinion those tools are contained within the Ownership Life Skills program. Combatting and ultimately overcoming my battle with my choice of an unhealthy lifestyle required I acquire an education rather than an acceptance I was doomed to live as a “victim of…” for the remainder of my life. My awareness that it was my choice to live unhealthy and it is now my choice to live healthy has brought me to the point in my life where I want to pass it on by investing in those who have yet to understand that change is within their grasp and by their own hands. There is a way out, but you must be willing to take Ownership of your past in order to map out your future. The distance between the two is a lot shorter than you think.

One of our main objectives is to provide services like no other agency while helping every student directly face issues hindering them from becoming more productive members of our communities. The Ownership curriculum is designed for 100% success for those who apply themselves 100%. They will get the results to beat the demons of any choice of an unhealthy life style and lessen the impact of the self-inflicted wounds acquired from living dysfunctional lives.

Sunhouse community partnerships with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, San Joaquin County Office of Education and Transition U Veteran Housing Programs have formed an "unbeatable bond". We look forward to many more rewarding partnerships in the future.

I teach the Ownership Life Skills and Harm Reduction Program/Reentry programs at San Joaquin County Honor Farm in French Camp, California and have done so for more than 10 years.

Jo Ann Rimmer, OLSC, CADC-I

I am Jo Ann Rimmer, and I would love to offer others faced with addiction issues the opportunity to live and not just survive the battles we experienced while abusing drugs/alcohol.  She currently serves as the CEO of Sunhouse and is certified through CCAPP as a CADC-I. My personal life journey through addiction led me to step through the world of the helping profession. The formation of Sunhouse has been an invaluable asset to my own recovery as well as establishing many professional and personal relationships all of whom remain a catalyst to my growth. Many of the treatment options available over 20 years ago are providing the exact same formats/treatment as I received when I sought and received services. There are various treatment options available for addictions and within recent years been successful in the acceptance of online courses as well as the ability to be adapted by other community based organizations. This is a win-win for Ownership Life Skills Training Programs and those we network with. I look forward to each student we enroll as they maneuver their way through what was once a path toward continually recycling themselves through what may not have worked before. I have been there and done all that. Take a chance and give us a call. We've got your back.
